I host 12 mambo sites on 1and1, and have also set up at least 10 client sites based on Mambo on 1and1.

Everything works...I do minimal tech support..I have to say that it is an excellent choice for a Mambo host.

As with all hosts - there is a learning curve but this one is a short one.

Excellent value - tons of features - support is very good (I am server literate - I don't know how support is for newbies)..most important to me (almost all sites are commercial) is that it is a very very reliable server.

I just wanted to respond to this reveiw concerning 1&1. I was with 1&1 for 3 years and it's true they are great as far as uptime, service, tech support, etc... The problem I have and the reason I have switched to a new host is that until one is willing to plunk down some serious dollars each month for a "developer" package you are limited to 1 MySql database. In effect this limits a person from having the ability to set up multiple web sites, or even a testing web site. I think also that you will find there are a lot of better soloutions out there for the money if you want more than 1 website.
